One of my partners, Nick, will be leaving today. I think it will be harder in the upcoming week to know what will be expected of us. But it's not that bad because we are basically done with the presentation and all we need to do is tie up some loose ends on our global warming part. Overall our performance is quite impressive because we basically got the whole presentation done in a month, which is quite fast.

day twenty-->same as the other two days
Today all of the interns and I went to ITT, but in order to be let in you had to prove you were a US citizen, so it took about 20 minutes for all of that to be settled. Then we had a presentation and was sent on our way for tours of the different sections of the building. They showed us how they created the lenses that would be launched into space. The experience was very interesting and I wouldn't mind going there again, I would suggest anybody interested in imaging science to see what goes on there, it was very fascinating. They put a significant amount of dedication and pride into what they do, and it is a very professional, strict but fun environment.

day nineteen-->a lot like day eighteen
Today we basically did the same thing as yesterday, not much. We looked up some more information on global warming, found some pictures and added it onto the powerpoint.

day eighteen-->nothing much
Today I didn't really do anything worth mentioning. Basically I just thought about some more information we could put on the cube and what I would do after my partners went home.

day seventeen-->research
Today I did some research on evolution. I was trying to find some questions we could possibly ask during our presentation to make it more educational and thought provoking. Also we went through the slides and added our own unique touch to them (you can't know what it is because it's a secret) Heheheee...

day sixteen-->learning about eyes
Today, instead of having a regular meeting, we had a 15 minute tour of the Visual Perception lab. Which was my first choice, following document restoration, in the interviewing process. During the tour I learned many new and interesting things. For example, did you know that there are 3 muscles on your eyes? There are some muscles to move your eyes in two plains, horizontally and vertically. As well as a rotational stabilizing muscle. The action of this muscle maintains a stable field of view reguardless of the head's position. Also I learned that colors, when put side by side, seem to change as the surrounding colors change.
In the cube room we focused on perfecting the evolution of our three selected animals. Which included doing research on color blindness, and how the colors in our presentation would appear to those who are color blind.
We had some visitors as well, my brother and a group of incoming freshman, and our anticipated visitor that we were informed of last week. He came in and made a video of the cube while Nick gave an in-depth explaination of how the cube works and some of its benefits. That video should be on youtube in the couple weeks at the most, so be on the look out.

day fifteen-->"intimidation factor"
We spent most of today editing our presentation so we would have something presentable for Monday just in case someone actually comes. Also we got our shirts today and walked around campus intimidating people, which was fun.

day fourteen-->birds
We got the whole bird presentation done, which included adding in the voice-overs, the music and tweaking it to our liking. So that means that we are a third way done with our project, we just need to finish the elephants and dolphins. Also we still need to find a type of cloth to clean the projector screens with so there won't be as much dust on it.
I learned how to set up Powerpoint so I can create one of these presentations by myself. It is easier to do since someone took the time out to pre-set the margins and plug in the cables for each projector. Also I learned how to add audio to the presentation and edit it using Audacity, a type of audio editing software that we downloaded from the internet.

day thirteen-->take 5, action!
Today we got the voice-overs for birds and dolphins done. You would think that it would be a fairly easy task but it wasn't at all. My partners and I had to keep on starting over because there was some ambient noise coming from a room nearby that was moving around their chairs. But all we need to do now is the recording for the elephants and put it on the cube, because some people are suppose to be coming on Monday and possibly recording us.

day tweleve-->finding a pangea video
Today we incorporated pangea in the project, which didn't take long because we just googled it. Also my group looked for music to put in the cube so it wouldn't be so dry and borring and we laid out the slides and in what order they are suppose to appear.
Also I went another meeting where I explained what I did last week and talked about another assigned paper that we had to read. I am confident that our final project will be a huge success. I'm excited.

day eleven-->putting together the final project
To my knowledge, we are all done with researching. I came in today and seen that the cube was half way done. All of the images are taken care of, and now all we have to do is record our facts and add it to the cube. After that I'm not sure what we will be doing next, we'll probably end up going back and revising things, which is okay with me as long as we have something productive to do.

day nine-->finally! no more pictures...I think.
Well today was a very exciting day especially since we got done with those pictures! (I have not been this happy since Monday)! We finally moved onto a different task, now we have to find information about them. Doesn't sound that hard, I mean, I would rather do this than still be looking up those pictures! Now that I think about it, I don't want to hear anthing about that "P" word for at least a week, so I'll refer to it as "P" for now, no matter how weird it sounds in a sentence.
But besides what we did in the cube room, I went to this presentation during lunch and it was interesting, don't get me wrong, I didn't really know anything that he was talking about, but I was in front of a guy who clearly knew what he was talking about.

day eight-->just can't get enough of those pictures...
Another day spent on pictures (as described in the last two days)-nothing new. I went to a seminer on E.coli, it was pretty cool but the only thing was that the presenter just read off their slides, which was kind of annoying. Overall, the day was slow and the type of work I do seems tedious, hopefully we will finish tomorrow so we can move onto something else.
Tuesday, July 14, 2009
day seven-->more pictures!!
Today was a lot like yesterday. It consisted of getting more pictures and editing the background of them. We had our meeting today and talked about the packet which was assigned last week. Also we were experimenting with this recording program called Audacity.

day six-->choosing an idea for the cube
Well, as you can see in the title, my partners and I came up with a central idea for the cube (evolution) and briefly talked about what we needed to do for it. I feel more confident knowing that I have an experienced person working with me that's around my age. Also, Catherine and I had plenty of fun on this picture editing software making blank spaces in the background...good times. We got about 4 out of _ photos for the cube, there's probably a lot more to be done too.

day five-->slow motion
Today went really slow. I didn't like it at all. Basically I sat in the computer lab all day and thought of ways to do the ideas I came up with. I also considered what I would need to do for each and my actual capabilities... and I noticed that what I needed to do outweighed what I could do. SO, long story short, I am sorting through my ideas and thinking about which one I would like and would be able to do.
Also I sent in my information for the news letter.

day four-->stalker!
Where do I begin? Well I came into work extra early (like always) and I sat until it was time for the two meetings. Then, when they were done, I went downstairs with my team mates. They worked on the computers while I brainstormed some new ideas for the cube. Came up with about 10-ish ideas. Didn't know if they would be okay to do or how I was going to do them, but it's the thought that counts...(right?). I went into the scheduled IDL class at 1 p.m. and we did various things like type more codes into the computer. Which paid off when we got to see our work, pink and yellow duckies (they were pretty cute I would have to admit). *ahem* But back to the point, it was a very interesting day, even if I had no clue what I was doing and needed multiple references.
P.S.- I'm going to need more help with this IDL thing, pronto.

day three-->computer searching
It seems to get better little by little. I'm finally starting to understand the IDL class, which is a relief, but I still have many complications. I have noticed that it is more helpful when the instructor explains what each command does while we are typing it rather than just having us write them down... It is easier when he goes through the process with us but I don't think I could do it by myself without bugging somebody every five seconds. And even after the last day (tomorrow) I don't think I would feel confident doing it by myself, especially since I'm the only one working on the cube. But I'm pretty sure I can find help somewhere.
I still don't know exactly what I'm suppose to be doing with the cube though...

day two-->intro to IDL class. (a.k.a random codes)
Today seemed to go by faster than yesterday. In the morning we learned about how black holes and galaxies formed. During the afternoon we also (tried) to learn how to do IDL (I'm pretty sure that's what it's called anyway). The way it was taught was confusing and I'm sure nobody benefitted from it at all. The instructor just told us to type codes in the computer and what the codes meant...I guess. But they didn't make any sense at all and I was borred the whole time. I tried to pay attention but it was hard. And unfortunately we have to do this until Thursday, which I'm not too fond of.

first day-->fire alert! everyone leave the building, or you will be yelled at.
Well, I don't think I was ready for the first day of work and I sure wasn't ready to go on a scavenger hunt in the hot sun. It was okay. I mean, it was good because it forced you to work with people who weren't in your field, but it was really hot out and I didn't have half the energy that the rest of the team had. We were running up and down the stairs a lot, and we found more than half of the objects (I thought we were going to find them all). It surprised me how we all worked together and we didn't even know eachother that well. I wouldn't mind doing it again later on.
Also, I met the superviser for the astronomy field. He was really cool, and so were the other people I was introduced to today. I was only concerned about what I would do in that field. I haven't been exposed to the things they want us to do, but I'll take the challenge.

And by the way, "GO TEAM A!"
